Advocating for Members

Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) serves as an advocate for its members and continuously monitors legislative and regulatory activity at the federal level and in the four states we serve — Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota — as well as Wyoming, where our main generating resource is located.

We continue to build relationships with lawmakers and policymakers who represent our member districts, and we make sure we keep in touch with them so that they are informed about our initiatives and issues.

MRES evaluates the issues that directly impact MRES and its members. Using internal staff and outside expertise, we coordinate with our members to develop and act upon effective strategies that will comply with the directives issued by state and federal agencies. In addition, MRES also may intervene or participate in federal or state regulatory proceedings when necessary if those directives or proposals affect MRES and our member municipal electric utilities.
